I’m not the only one who has lurked about at Panera Bread with a laptop and a great idea.
We tend to pick the tables in the corners and rarely make eye contact, except for the occasional nod to another laptop geek. You see, in the corporate world, you have a wonderful, daily opportunity called “lunchtime.” Sure, you could spend that time shopping, running errands, power walking or hanging out with colleagues (all admirable activities). I viewed it as an hour tucked away to invest in my future. And let’s face it – I don’t often get an uninterrupted hour of quality PC time at home with little kids running around.
I catch up on emails, update my website, write articles, blog, prepare presentations, and work on marketing plans. As I began to conceptualize the HOMEdigz project, I recorded my thoughts and ideas in no particular order, hoping they’d all make sense in the end. My lunch hour was the most productive and rewarding time of the day! In a small way, I’ll miss my hour of focus at Panera.
Going forward, I’ll be sneaking PC time in while the kids are napping or watching a movie. My plan is to score 2 hours/day this summer. We’ll see how realistic that is! (Ok, you can stop laughing now!!!)
